Kindred Construction Solutions
For longtime Nokomis resident Jacob Haskins of Kindred Construction Solutions, community service and business go hand-in-hand. “I try my best to put time, energy, and resources back into the community that supports me,” he said. He stumbled across NEBA while looking for a way to meet other business owners to problem-solve the same headaches and struggles. This year, Jacob is the NEBA president.
He and his wife ended up in Nokomis by “will of the universe.” With a baby on the way, they found a starter home near a school that they could afford. They fell in love with the strength of the community, and can’t imagine living on any other block. They’re always dreaming of ways to make the small house more comfortable for their family.
Jacob was working at a gas station as assistant manager when the World Trade Centers were hit by terrorist planes on 9/11. Driven by an urge to help, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for four years, and then earned his bachelor of science in construction management from Moorhead State University through the GI Bill. He had his first project management gig before he graduated. Over the next 10+ years, he worked at a few companies, learning about different ways to operate. “I have never been afraid of doing things that are hard, which is why I decided to start my own company,” he observed.
“Our motto is ‘Honest Construction, Made Simple’ because we always offer transparency,” said Jacob. “No games, no tricks, and no double talk. We’re called Kindred Construction Solutions because we believe everyone is part of the team and that drives our approach to everything we do.”
